Minister Vijitha Herath has announced that the iconic 130-year-old Nuwara Eliya Post Office building will be reserved exclusively for postal department operations. He further stated that all previous decisions regarding the property have been suspended, reflecting the new government’s position.
Under the former government, there had been plans to transfer the colonial-era building to the private sector for a hotel project, a move that sparked protests from local communities, trade unions, and various organizations.
The Nuwara Eliya Post Office, known for its Tudor Revival architecture, is a renowned landmark and tourist attraction in Sri Lanka.
