The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has written to President Ranil Wickremesinghe to stress the importance of the appointment of the next Inspector General of Police being an officer of impeccable character and with the ability to restore public faith in the Sri Lanka Police.
BASL has also asked that the process of appointing the IGP (and all other important posts) should be conducted in a transparent manner to ensure the public has confidence in the selection process.
The current police chief, C.D. Wickramaratne, will be leaving his post on the 23rd of March.
